AB 1726: A California Case Study on Disaggregating Public Health Data by Race and Ethnicity a new policy brief that presents key challenges to implementing California Assembly Bill 1726, which passed in 2016 and requires the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to break down broad demographic data it collects into more specific Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) subgroups.

Reports

Southeast Asian American Journeys: A National Snapshot of our Communities highlights socioeconomic, housing, immigration, health, and education trends within the Southeast Asian American (SEAA) community in the United States.

The Right to Heal: Southeast Asian American Mental Health in California presents mental health challenges and community solutions, in addition to policy recommendations to support SEAA communities. The report uplifts the unique mental health needs of SEAAs due to experiences with war, violence, genocide, and displacement, and draws directly from community voices and participation in this research.

Voices Unheard highlights the experiences of more than 200 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) youth. Topics include the pandemic’s effect on AANHPI mental wellness, the importance of culturally appropriate mental health support, and SEARAC’s recommendations to reduce barriers to mental health care in California. Additionally, Voices Unheard bridges the gap of research that focuses on the mental health status of often marginalized AANHPI ethnicities.
